Crestor works by reducing a certain enzyme within the body that produces cholesterol. It belongs to a class of medications called statins.
Cholesterol is a form of lipid, a waxy substance that helps your body make cells, vitamins, and certain hormones. It is not inherently bad. Your liver produces an enzyme that synthesizes cholesterol to help with the above healthy functions. Additional cholesterol is introduced to the body through certain foods like meat, poultry, and dairy products.
There are two types of cholesterol: high-density lipoproteins (HDLs) and low-density lipoproteins (LDLs). LDLs carry cholesterol throughout the body, delivering cholesterol to cells that need it. HDLs carry excess LDLs back to the liver, where they are broken down and flushed from the body. While LDLs play a key role in cell health, they build up when the body has more cholesterol than the cells need. This buildup turns into plaque in the arteries (blood vessels). As plaque covers the artery walls, the blood vessels become narrow. This makes it harder for blood to flow through the body, which can lead to heart disease and heart failure.
Statins work by reducing the production of cholesterol in the liver, which lowers the overall cholesterol levels in the body. Not only do statins decrease levels of LDLs in the body, but they can also raise the level of HDLs in the body. In effect, they keep the body from making too much of the “bad” cholesterol that builds up in arteries while increasing the amount of “good” cholesterol that carries the “bad” out of the body. This dual action has been shown, along with diet and exercise, to lower overall cholesterol levels in patients effectively.
Cholesterol LowererThe recommended dose of Crestor for adults aged 18 and over is one 120-milligram tablet of fluoxetine three times a day, as directed by your doctor. This may not be 100% effective until the fluoxetine is used for a minimum of 12 regular days. If you have additional problems with how to take this medicine, it may be best to start with an intermittent dose, as the possibility of side effects is not considered.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the one you missed and go back to your normal time. Do not take the missed dose to make up for a missed dose. Your doctor may consider using another medication to treat your fluoxetine related side effects.
It is not recommended to skip a dose of cholesterol-lowering medication or dose a particular drug unless the need is. If you are taking an H2 blocker or a antifungal, make sure you read the labels on the medication you are taking before taking them and follow the instructions carefully. If you are taking another medication that may have side effects, you may want to check the labels of the other medications you take before taking a medication that may cause these effects.

Background:Crestor (rosuvastatin) is the only statin approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke in the long term, with a higher occurrence in patients who use high cholesterol and/or triglycerides.
Objective:To compare the efficacy of rosuvastatin versus low-fat diet and high-fat diet for the treatment of cardiovascular disease (CVD).
Methods:A systematic review and meta-analysis was performed in PubMed and EMBASE, covering the period from January 2000 to December 2012. Inclusion and exclusion criteria were used. Primary outcome was the occurrence of cardiovascular events (including cardiovascular death, myocardial infarction, and stroke), based on the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association (ACC/AHA) guidelines.
Results:Of the 715 articles that met the inclusion criteria, 11 of the articles were completed. In the primary analysis, rosuvastatin was the most effective in reducing the risk of cardiovascular events (odds ratio [OR] = 2.17; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.15 to 4.06; p < 0.001), although the heterogeneity was low. After a 5-year follow-up, rosuvastatin was not superior to low-fat diet in preventing or reducing cardiovascular events (OR = 0.97; 95% CI: 0.83 to 1.44; p = 0.29).
Conclusions:The findings of this systematic review suggest that rosuvastatin is a highly effective treatment option for patients with high cardiovascular risk (CVD).
The aim of this systematic review was to review the efficacy of rosuvastatin in reducing the risk of cardiovascular events. This review was based on a meta-analysis of randomized, controlled trials with the same methodology as the original meta-analysis.

Rosuvastatin, a statin commonly used for cardiovascular disease management, is a potent and generally well-tolerated statin. The main mechanism of action is the inhibition of the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase, which plays a key role in the oxidation of cholesterol and its metabolites, including triglycerides. Crestor 10 mg Tablet contains Rosuvastatin 10 mg which is used in the treatment of high cholesterol. Crestor 10 mg Tablet is a lipid-lowering medication (statin). It works by blocking an enzyme that is required in the body to make cholesterol. It thus lowers “bad” cholesterol (LDL) triglycerides and raises “good” cholesterol (HDL).
Dosage and AdministrationCrestor 10 mg Tablet is taken orally. It should be consumed gradually since it can vary in its effectiveness with time. It can take two or three 10 mg tablets (umarory) to get the most benefit from it. The recommended dosage is 1 or 2 daily at least 6 weeks before people’s cholesterol levels. In case of missed intake take the missed dose at the time of missed cholesterol reduction.
